Urbanism 5.0


Urbanism 5.0 is a studio project of spring 2020. This project deals with revitalising East Court Avenue, Des moine by creating viable urban environment and connecting the area with futuristic transportation facility.

In the past 20 years two major developments in East Des Moines - East Village and MLK Parkway - have contributed to the growth of the downtown - the business district and the future Market District. Two other urban components in the East side that offer significant development potential for the area have not yet been addressed: EAST COURT AVENUE at the seam between the East Village and the future Market District and the Capitol grounds through to E. 14th St. The E. Court corridor and nearby areas comprise valuable public and private land and is home to over 4,000 jobs. But without any public transit service it become an obstacle for future growth, demanding continued dependence on private cars and vast land for surface parking.







Design Intervention:

The excessive wide 3 lane road with both side on-parking is converted to 2 lane road with wider sidewalk to enhance street activity.

Construction of mixed use building to increase viability of space

Proposal of nimble AV shuttle service to provide convenient public transit system for employees and visitors

Pedestrian oriented development

Better use of parking space
