Global studio final project
This team project was complete in May 2020 Global Studio for Master in Urban Design at Iowa State University. The project was done virtually using Miro and online meeting platforms for discussions and meetings. Me and my team members, Leigha Duckett, Gautam Pradeep, Ruoxi Chen and Wei Wang focused on study of Child-Friendly Urban Design.
This project highlights the importance of public urban environment for children and presents urban design strategies to enhance the experience of usage of public space through lens of children.

There is a connection between city and the children in the city. Children enjoy outdoor and spending time in the spaces between the buildings for leisure if the space meets their needs such as safety, opportunity and proximity.

We identified two neighborhoods with different Socio Economic Status, and analyzed
each site in children's perspective. Various design strategies were proposed to address
the effect of built environment in children.
We discovered there are less number of designated play area for children in the area with low SES and the children usually play in the narrow alley between the building and road sides.
In order to design spaces for children, it should address the needs of children living in that area. For instance, there should be sidewalks, safe crossings, shaded area to walk to school, proper signage and traffic amenities.
The"life between the building should be given priority. It is the foremost accessible public space for children. It should be safe and provide opportunity to encourage children to use the public space. The space between the building will have constant "eye on the street" that will enhance the safety of the children playing outside, it is accessible to the neighborhood children.
